FOOD DRIVE.
We had a "food drive" in November for needy animals in local shelters.

PRO BONO COMMITTEE.
LSALDF Treasurer Stephen Cawelti is chairing a committee to identify
opportunities for LLS students to meet their pro bono requirement
through working on animal law-related projects. Stephen just needs
people to make 2 or 3 phone calls (he will even supply the names!) to
organizations and people to make this goal a reality. Please email
Stephen at fatcat@massivecat.com
if you are able to donate a few minutes to help this worthwhile effort.

MOOT COURT TEAM. The
Student Animal Legal Defense Fund of Harvard Law School and the National
Center for Animal Law are sponsoring a national animal advocacy competition
at Harvard February 25-27, 2004. There was a moot court competition and a closing argument competition. LSALDF
had a presence at the competition!!! Luke Reynolds participated in the closing argument competition, and Sherri Woo, Maya
Morales, and Marissa Nuncio participated in the Moot Court component.

LEGISLATIVE DRAFTING
CONTEST. On April 2, 2005 the National Center for Animal Law and
the GWU SALDF will host the first Legislative Drafting and Lobbying
Competitions at the George Washington University Law School.

TABLING. One of
the best ways to help enlighten the LLS Community about animal law is to
host staff a table in the Courtyard and pass out LSALDF literature,
cookies, and soda. If you are able to volunteer even just an hour to
staff a table, please email lureynolds@earthlink.net with the days and times that are best for
you.

ART SHOW. We
would like to have at several animal-themed art pieces at the ESBA/DSBA Art
Show on March 28-30, 2005. If you are an artist, please consider
showcasing any animal-themed artwork at this event. To participate, please

SUMMER ANIMAL LAW
COURSE: Lewis & Clark Law School will offer a
summer animal law class
focusing on federal litigation and lobbying.

PILF AUCTION.
LSALDF had a presence at the PILF Auction on October 23, 2004.
We had a 1/2 page ad in the program directory, as well as
donations for the PILF Auction. Thanks to Sherri Woo for
creating the baskets and Luke Reynolds for designing the ad.

TURF CLUB. LSALDF cosponsored the Turf Club on November
18, 2004. Thanks to Stephen Calweti for finding good-quality
refreshments and food for the event. We served vegan Chinese food
and unusually high-quality refreshments! Thanks also to all the
LSALDF members who volunteered during the event

Future of Animal Law
Conference. LSALDF Vice President/Secretary Sherri Woo represented Loyola Law School at the The Future of Animal Law Conference
at Yale Law School November 5-7. (More information about the conference is at http://www.animallawconference.com.)

(9-6-2004): We are

- PUBLICATION. Congratulations to LSALDF Secretary Sherri Woo for the
article she co-authored with Bob Ferber of the LA City Attorney's Office
which appears in the current edition of Animal Wellness.

meeting of the semester
The first meeting of the semester
was held on
September 29th from 5:10PM-5:50PM.
9-2004: Tabling
September 7 and 8, please join us for refreshments
in the LLS Courtyard as we do tabling to raise awareness in the community
about animal law.
4--2004: Next
Meeting
Our last meeting of the Spring semester will be on Wednesday, April 14,
2004 from 5:10PM -5:45PM in B204 on the Loyola Law School campus. This will
be the last meeting of the semester, so we will outline our vision for the
summer and academic year and begin voting for the first officers of the LSALDF!
3-2004: Other Announcements
- March 29: The Law Offices of Toye & Associates is seeking a Law Student
for an Unpaid Internship to assist in Animal Law cases. Gain practical
experience in this growing field of law. Office located near UCLA (Sawtelle
and Santa Monica Blvd). Please contact Leah at (310) 235-2287.
- The Loyola Student Animal Legal Defense Fund hosted Robert Ferber, LA
City Attorney, Animal Protection Unit to speak about animal law on
Wednesday, March 10, 2004 from 12:15 PM - 1:00 PM.
- We held our first/orientation meeting on January 28, 2004 and we are
starting out with over 30 active members!
